There are lots of reasons why you would want to pass your driving test. One of the main reasons has to be the freedom it affords you to get to the places you love.

New Driver in LeicesterLeicester is one of the best places in the country to drive around. There are some great roads, and some awesome places to visit. If you’re keen to get somewhere that is only accessible by car, then it’s time to pass your test and get yourself some independence.

You can always ask our instructors for advice on planning journeys and how to deal with any traffic situations you’d like to know more about. We’re committed to helping you become a confident, independent driver.

We always recommend building up experience gradually once you’ve passed your test, being on the roads alone will feel different but that’s no reason not to enjoy your time travelling and make the most of your excursions.

Motorway Destinations

Once you’ve passed your test, you might be keen to explore a bit further than the towns and cities around Leicester. One of the best things about Leicester is its proximity to the M1 motorway. This immediately gives you the freedom to travel anywhere else in the country.

Want to dip your toes in as a newly qualified driver? Why not take a trip up to Fosse Park? With dining and shopping choices, you’ll have a blast and it’s not too far so it won’t be such a tiring journey to get used to driving on the motorway.

Or if you fancy going a little further, maybe you’ve had some motorway driving tuition with us and you’re feeling happy, you could try going North on the M1. How about Meadowhall in Sheffield? Or perhaps a day out in the Peak District? These are all great options that will get you confident in independent driving, route planning and unfamiliar roads.

But if motorway driving isn’t what you fancy right now, there are plenty of other choices.

Building Experience on the A roads

Many locals enjoy driving along the forest roads that pass near to Loughborough. These can be quite enchanting when traffic is light. They certainly offer some great views. The A607 is one of the best roads to head toward the A1. It has some great turns and only a few areas that are more built up. It can get quite busy with Sunday drivers but is a great road for new drivers to build their confidence.

The A47 can be navigated to pass through a few villages or down along a by-pass. This is quite a challenging drive around the Hallaton area for anyone newly licensed. It could offer you some practice in more tricky situations. Of course, most of us drive with a destination in mind, so it’s time to check out what’s worth the cost of petrol these days.

If you fancy a really good day out you could always hit Leicester’s closest coastal destination- Skegness! Travelling mostly by the A46 and A158 you’ll gain some great road experience and feel more confident with longer journeys.

It’s always a good idea to try driving through the local villages in Leicester. Many of these have difficult, narrow roads, many hazards and often unclear road signs. Acclimatising to driving whilst looking out for anything and everything that might happen on the roads is a great idea for any new driver. Start off by going where you haven’t been on your driving lessons, the unfamiliarity will be a challenge but you can reward yourself by stopping off and exploring when you find somewhere interesting!
