Hear what our students think of Awards Driving School Leicester
Did you know that nine out of ten learners who passed the practical test on their first attempt were taught by an Approved Driving Instructor, referred to as ADI for short?
1. How do you know that an instructor is fully qualified and approved?
An Approved Driving Instructor must display a green certificate on the car windscreen while conducting lessons. This means they have passed a much tougher theory and practical driving test and have been cleared by a criminal record check. At the Awards Driving School Leicester all our instructors are fully qualified and have their green certificate clearly visible.
If you see a pink certificate on the windscreen, this means the trainee driving instructor has been granted a licence to that they can gain experience before their final qualifying examination.
2. Who regulates the standards?
The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) is responsible for maintaining and checking the standards of all approved driving instructors. These standards are regularly assessed and checked. All our instructors at Awards are registered with the DSA.
3. Insurance
The insurance taken out by a qualified and registered driving instructor must cover their teaching role and be fully comprehensive. The appropriate insurance also includes when the car is being used on the actual driving test. The DSA recommends the general criteria for a good and reliable driving instructor are:

4. Has a good reputation
See our testimonials page. If we should receive a complaint about one of our driving instructors we will investigate immediately.
5. Are reliable and punctual
At the Awards Driving School Leicester our instructors follow a strict policy that means we allow 30 minutes between the end of one lesson and the start of another. This ensures our instructors arrive on time and have had the opportunity to re-focus and prepare for teaching your one hour lesson. If someone is ill, we will let you know and try to supply a stand-in.
We require at least 48 hours notice of any cancellation or the cost of the lesson will still be charged. This stipulation is waivered if the lesson is cancelled at the last minute because of a medial emergency.
This policy also applies to our instructors. If the lesson is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, and the stipulated 48 hour time period has not been met, the pupil will receive a free lesson. The instructor is exempt if the cancellation is due to a mechanical car failure on the day.
6. Has a car that suits you.
We can provide both manual and automatic cars for tuition. All our vehicles have dual controls and range from a Renault Megane to a Mini Cooper and Ford Fiestas.
